Surgery - What We Offer
AVSEC offers the following surgical procedures and treatments:
Orthopedic Disease
- Treatment for cranial cruciate ligament rupture including Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO), Tibial tuberosity advancement (TTA), Tightrope® - all arthroscopic-assisted.
- Arthroscopy: To treat cartilage flaps, debriding osteophytes, remove bone fragments and other intra-articular injuries in the shoulder, elbow, carpus, hip, stifle, and tarsal joints.
- Osteochondral Autograft Transfer System (OATS™) to treat OCD lesions.
- Hip Dysplasia including Cemented and cement-less total hip replacements, juvenile pubic symphysiodesis (JPS) and PennHIP for early diagnosis 0f canine hip dysplasia.
- Fracture repair using ring and traditional linear external fixators, the interlocking nail system and bone plates.
Thoracic Surgery including thoracoscopy to remove tumors, treat vascular ring anomalies, create pericardial windows and ligate the thoracic duct.
Abdominal Surgery including laparoscopy to perform prophylactic gastropexies, tissue biopsies, feeding tube placement, cryptorchid castrations, laparoscopic spays, cholecystectomies and abdominal lavage for pancreatitis, gastrointestinal surgery (including liver shunts), urogenital surgery.

 Surgery treatment and services are led by Dr. Matt Rooney of Longmont's Aspen Meadow Veterinary Specialists.
Dr. Rooney and Dr. Trent Gall, along with the AVSEC surgical team, provide state-of-the-art diagnostics, technology, surgical procedures, treatments and follow-up for dogs, cats and exotic pets. Plus, they work closely with your family veterinarian to ensure a complete and accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.
